Falling Temps, Falling Leaves!

Here in central New York, the brisk (and getting brisker) weather has brought with it a gorgeous palette of fall colors for the trees and bushes. Word on the leaf-watching street is that because of the particularly hot dry summer we had, the fall leaves are going to be beautiful this year! And also, in retribution for all that warm weather, the winter is probably going to be terrible.

Still, I’m not going to worry about the impending snowy doom that is winter in Syracuse  when we have fall glory all around us! The trees are on fire with color in all different shades of red, orange, and yellow – and I am loving it!

Here are a few pictures from my area. It’s a little sad to think that soon the leaves will turn dry and brittle and lose their color… but that just means we’ll appreciate them even more for their transience!

To take advantage of the colors, we decided to pay a visit to Green Lakes State Park in Manlius, east of Syracuse. We’ve been to Green Lakes before, but not during autumn so I was really looking forward to it! The state park actually consists of two lakes, Round Lake and Green Lake. Both lakes have an unusual and very lovely blue-green color to them, caused by minerals that are suspended in the water. The two lakes are meromictic, meaning the different layers of waters do not mix and therefore the lovely color remains all year-round. In any case, the lakes are beautiful to see in any season!

Because it was Columbus Day, there were plenty of people strolling around the lake and enjoying the scenery. A lot of cute families and also older couples out and about. Very sweet!

The gorgeous colors of the lake and also the fall leaves really gave us a lot of photographic opportunities. It wasn’t an extremely sunny day but the nice overcast light made for some pretty pictures and also nice clouds in the lake reflection.

my favorite pic of the bunch. i love all the colors! and the great reflection of the sky in the lake.

A super photo-heavy post! Hope you enjoy =D
